Research: Apple dominates holiday devices activations

Sales might be slowing, but it appears devices with the apple label continue to be the recent gift in the course of the holidays.

All through the vacations, 40% of gadgets activated have been from apple, according to a report from studies company Flurry. Samsung changed into the second most famous machine tool, with 21% of activations.

Huawei becomes 3rd popular one, accompanied by using LG and amazon. absent on the listing changed into google, which launched the pixel smartphone this 12 months.

“With handiest devices, the pixel and pixel xl, and combined marketplace reception google struggled to drum up exhilaration this vacation season,” reads a weblog publish from Chris Klotzbach, director at flurry, and Lali Kesiraju, flurry’s marketing and analytics manager.

Phablets, devices with the screen measuring between 5 and 7 inches, have grown increasingly popular in recent years. Flurry says 37% of devices activated this year were phablets, up from 27% last year. It comes at the expense of medium phones — featuring screens up to 5 inches. This year, 45% of activated devices were medium phones, down from 64% three years ago.

Samsung activations climbed in Flurry’s findings despite issuing a massive recall earlier this year for the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. The electronics giant discontinued the device following reports the phone could overheat and potentially catch fire.

Apple will likely offer more details on holiday sales during its quarterly earnings call expected next month.
